Arenal Sky Tram

Rainforest Tram overlooking the Volcano and Lake

The Arenal Sky Tram is a slow and silent gondola system that takes you over the rainforest surrounding Arenal Lake.   You will be accompanied by a guide who will help identify birds, trees and plants and comment on the particular aspects of the forest in this area.  He can stop the tram at anytime if you want to observe a particular animal or bird or just to take pictures.

After 20 minutes of ascent you will arrive to the observation deck, the best in the area, at an altitude close to 1000 m (3000 feet).  From here the views of Arenal Volcano and Arenal Lake are spectacular.

The concept of an aerial tram over the rainforest canopy was created to raise the world's consciousness of the importance of the tropical rainforests.  This is an excellent example of how preservation of the forest can pay more than clearing the land for other uses while also giving jobs to the local people.

You can descend from the mountain back on the tram, or if you prefer, you can hike down, accompanied by a guide, on the trails that lead through the forest, back to the visitors’ area.  There is also the option of doing the descent via the zip lines or Sky Trek Canopy Tour.
